White Island | CAMIGUIN

White Island is one of the two islands of Camiguin which attracts thousands of tourists every year. It is located just few kilometers off the coast of Mambadjao. The horseshoe shaped island is an uninhabited white sandbar.

There are no trees or shelter of any kind within the island. It is composed solely of white sands surrounded by clear waters. The jump off going to the island is in Barangay Agoho in Mambajao town. Small boats can be hired at 450pesos back-and-forth. First trip going to the White Island is around 5:30 AM while boats are only allowed in White Island until 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

Travel Guide | CAMIGUIN ISLAND, PHILIPPINES

Camiguin is an island province in the Philippines located in the northern coast of Mindanao. It is known as ‘the island born of fire’ as the province is said to be created by volcanic eruptions and land movements.

How to get to Camiguin?

Option 1: Manila – Cebu – Camiguin via connecting flight

Cebu Pacific Air flies to Camiguin five times a week from Manila via Cebu. (Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat-Sun) (visit Cebu Pacific for further details).

Option 2: Via Balingoan, Cagayan de Oro to Benoni Port

An hourly Ferry Boat/Roro from Balingoan Port will take you to Benoni Port in Camiguin. Early trip from Balingoan Port to Benoni Port(Camiguin) is 5:30 AM.

Option 3: from Jagna, Bohol via Ro-Ro

RO-RO ferry sails daily at 1:00 PM, expected arrival at Camiguin Island is 5:00PM at Balbagon Port

Getting around

The easiest way to get around the island is through habal-habal (motorcycle). Rate starts at 500 pesos without driver and 800 pesos if with driver/guide. You can hire a habal-habal near the ports of Benoni and Balbagon while there those just outside Camiguin airport. The island´s 64km circumferential road is also accesible by public jeepneys, multicabs and van.

What to see?

The island of Camiguin is a little paradise with full of wonders of nature and historical attractions. Here are well-known places in the island you can visit:

Santo Rosario Church: The Santo Rosario Church in the municipality of Sagay built in 1882.

Gui-ob Church Ruins: The church of the Old Catarman town destroyed and partly submerged by volcanic debris during the eruption and formation of Mount Vulcan from 1871 to 1875.

Mount Hibok-Hibok: Located at the northernmost and is the only active volcanic vent in Camiguin.

White Island: Can be accessed from Agoho which is about 5 km west of the town of Mambajao.

Mantigue Island: Can be reached from Mahinog about 14 kilometres south of Mambajao.

Sunken cemetery: During the volcanic birth of Mt. Vulcan that lasted from 1871 to about 1875, some areas in the town of Bonbon subsided, sinking the cemetery of the town to below sea level. The place is commemorated by a huge cross erected in 1982

Katibawasan Falls: Located 5 km southeast of Mambajao, the Katibawasan Falls flows 76m down to a pool surrounded by orchids and ferns.

Tuasan Falls: The 25m high strong waterfalls located 6 km northeast of Catarman.

Ardent Hot Spring: At the foot of Hibok-Hibok Volcano bubble the mineral pools of Ardent Hot Springs..

Sto. Niño Cold Springs and Bura Natural Soda Water Swimming Pool: Located in Catarman these are other places to get a relaxing dip on the island.

Tangub Hot Spring: An interesting hot spring located on the shore close to the Sunken Cemetery.

Where to stay?

There are numerous hotels, resorts, lodges, home stays, cottages and even rooms-for-rent within Camiguin mostly within the capital of Mambadjao. You can visit Camiguin Tourism for a list of accommodation rooms and resorts.
